How do I find out if someone was already reported as missing. Is there a way i can find a doent for free?

My sister-in-law dropped off her kids and disappered. Some friends said in an article in tabloids they have reported her missing. I need to find the report or her picture stating she was really reported as missing. She is the granddaughter of Gene roddenberry. I can't get any help from the family, they haven't heard from here.
